From November 9th to 10th, 2021 the 2nd Packaging Valley MAKEATHON took place successfully at seven decentralized locations. More than 70 students, as well as other technology enthusiasts from different universities and cities were welcomed by the organizers Packaging Valley Germany e.V. (PV), Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart and ITQ GmbH.
Due to the current Corona pandemic and thus the strict security regulations, the individual teams from the different locations were connected via collaboration tools and video conferencing systems. In this way, the event could be successfully implemented this year and creative processes on topics relating to packaging machine construction were developed by the participants. The focus of this year’s event was on future-relevant topics that are of current relevance. Thus, ideas on the topics of virtual and augmented reality technologies, sustainable packaging of internal transports, supply chain due diligence law, reduction of the CO2 footprint as well as efficiency and safety topics were collected and elaborated by the students.
Martin Buchwitz, Managing Director of Packaging Valley, is enthusiastic about the results of the 2nd Packaging Valley MAKEATHON, where “curiosity meets experience”, and highlights the characteristic of this event. During this event, young talents are given the opportunity to try out new things. “We can use real products and modern technologies provided by our partners. We can go ways we wouldn’t normally go because they might be too cumbersome or seem flawed to us at first glance.”
Dr. Rainer Stetter, initiator of the Packaging Valley MAKEATHON and Managing Director of ITQ GmbH, is also impressed by the students’ work. “Such an innovative event as the Packaging Valley MAKEATHON demands unusual and creative ideas that have to be shaped. In particular, the adrenaline generated by the time pressure and the expectation of results among the students is decisive for the realization of such innovative ideas. The mixture of pressure, fun as well as the joy of engineering ensures that numerous innovations are created and contributes to our successful MAKEATHON, which already received strong growth at its second attempt.”
At this point, ITQ GmbH would like to thank all partners and participants involved for the successful event and great cooperation!
